Nature-based Facts & Figures

  • Industries that rely on nature employ around 1.2 billion people.

  • More than half of the world’s economic value generation is dependent on nature and its services (an estimated $44 trillion).

  • Nature-based services are more cost-effective than engineered solutions and have far fewer unexpected consequences.

Sustainability is a source of competitive advantage, providing benefits such as:

  • Decreased operational costs

  • Decreased organizational risk

  • Increased employee & citizen engagement

  • Improved environmental outcomes

  • Retention and talent attraction

  • Improved public image and brand value

Be part of the Global Decade of Ecosystem Restoration

  • Between now and 2030, the restoration of 350 million hectares of degraded terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems could generate $9 trillion in ecosystem services.

  • Restoration can remove 13 to 26 gigatons of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.

  • The economic benefits of these initiatives exceed nine times the cost of investment, whereas inaction is at least three times more costly than ecosystem restoration.
